The maximum number of active users allowed depends on your license.

You may see the current status and usage of your license.

Steps

  1. Sign in as a user with the Application Administrator capability global role assignment.

  2. Go to MANAGE > License.

Example

The number of users who are active and how many are licensed is presented

In addition, the duration of usage of the current license is also presented, and displayed in red if it will expire soon.

Finally, the actual text inside the license details the features which are included.

The matrix of statistics by license count provides the following information based upon the FROM and TO date and time specified in the heading:

Statistic Description
Current Usage / Max The number of user actively logged in by license type / The maximum allowed by your license
Accepted Login Total The total number of login sessions accepted (authenticated and authorized)
Denied Login Total The total number of login sessions denied (note authenticated or not authorized)
Denied Login Users The count of unique users in the set of login sessions denied
Unique Users The count of unique users overall from the set of login sessions attempted
Peak Users The peak number of actively logged in users by license type
> The Administrator user is a permanent named user and is never
> counted as part of any license maximum number of users as the
> Administrator user must be able to sign in at any time.

Also, if you have an unlimited number of users with your license then any user may log in multiple times with the same username, including the Administrator.

You may also see information about who is a producer vs. consumer and who is active in MANAGE > Users.

When someone signs in and that would exceed the maximum number of that type of user, a message like this appears:

The Named user checkbox column in the Manage Users page is hidden when you have uploaded a producer license.

Named vs. Concurrent Users

The maximum number can be based on a maximum number of named users, or more likely a maximum number of concurrent users (among all users) which may be active at a given point in time. By default, the maximum number of concurrent users applies to any type of users from advanced administrators to business users.

Producers vs. Consumers

A concurrent user license can be split in two maximum limits:

  • Metadata producers who are read-write concurrent users such as data architects, data stewards, data modelers, glossary editors, mapping designers, developers, and any advanced users with access to all functionalities.

  • Metadata consumers who are ready-only concurrent users such as data users, analysts, reviewers who can create worksheets/dashboards, add comments/social curation)

With this split license, users are considered to be metadata consumers by default. In order to designate a user as a producer, they must have roles with object or global capability assignments that makes them a Producer.

You may see the assignment of users in the list under MANAGE > Users:

Download License Information

In order to request a license, you must first generate the license information (HostInfo.xml file) unique to your application server.

Steps

  1. Sign in as a user with the Application Administrator capability global role assignment.

  2. Go to MANAGE > License.

  3. Click DOWNLOAD LICENSE INFORMATION.

You should save the HostInfo.xml file and submit it in order to have a .lic file generated.

Single Version and Configuration Licenses

The license for some editions only allows one configuration in the repository and only one version of any object. I.e., version and configuration management are disabled and not represented in the user interface. The abbreviated options affect the choices in the context menu for the following objects as detailed here:

Configuration Refresh Rename Edit Security Operation View Links
Configuration Version There should be no versions shown

> A repository database that has been initialized when a single version /
> single configuration license is applied will NOT have a naming standards

> that database, as it is incomplete. Instead, you must initialize a new
> database with the new license applied.
